Horsforth Chiropractic
Family-centred care through pregnancy, postnatal recovery and beyondI am Cathy Tansley, a chiropractor with over 10 years’ experience helping people of all backgrounds and ages regain their health, from those in their 90’s to newborns just a few hours old.
Having a baby is demanding. I have successfully supported many pregnant and postnatal women over the course of my career. However, it was my personal experience of pregnancy, home birth and getting breastfeeding established and maintained that made me truly understand how vital proper support is at this potentially vulnerable time in a family’s life.
This support can take various forms but certainly chiropractic care, the right lifestyle ‘ingredients’ and an appropriate postnatal recovery programme are a combination that can better assist and restore women through this time of great change and extra pressures, both physically and emotionally.
What to expect
As a chiropractor I identify the areas of tension, misalignment and stress that have built up within the body as a consequence of living a modern life.
I restore the balance of the spine by relieving stress on the nervous system through chiropractic adjustments. Chiropractic adjustments are specific low force, high speed movements applied to the spine. I am trained in a variety of different techniques so that I can tailor your care to you.
First visit
The Consultation
After booking your first visit you will be sent a health form for you to complete before your appointment, to find out about any previous medical history that may affect recovery, existing medical conditions, what has contributed to the current problem and what your hoped-for outcomes are from receiving care.
During the first visit we’ll then review the health form and I’ll perform a physical examination.
Second visit
The Report of Findings
We’ll explain the findings from the first visit and answer any questions you may have about your care plan.
Every case is unique, so each care plan is different, depending on many factors such as stress levels, age, daily activity and the results of the examination. We’ll also schedule reassessments at regular intervals to make sure you are getting the very best possible care.
Pregnancy and Postnatal Care
Back pain is a very common problem during pregnancy. The body has to cope with weight gain, a shifting centre of gravity due to the growing baby and joint and ligament softening in preparation for birth. Any existing postural problem or injury can make it so much harder for the body to adapt to these changes.
Chriopractic care during pregnancy can address any existing problems and better align the body to improve nervous system function and get the pelvis in a much better position to allow the birth of the baby.
As well as being safe for both mother and the unborn children, chiropractic care has been shown to significantly reduce labour time for women who had care throughout their pregnancy. Click here for more information.
